5th-6th   Student Support Services

ONCE YOU LEARN TO APPRECIATE THE SMALL VICTORIES,
THERE IS NO NEED FOR A FINISH LINE!

In the 5th and 6th grades at SES, support services are provided to all eligible students. The student services liaison, Renee Richard, works closely with the general education teachers to assist students with learning difficulties, attentional struggles, emotional regulation, behavioral needs, socio-emotional challenges, as well as, other areas that require support for a student to successfully access the general education curriculum and environment.

Many in-class accommodations are provided to ensure all students keep pace with the general education curriculum. The academic areas of reading, writing and mathematics are supported through small group lessons or direct instruction within the classroom or adjoining work spaces.

Sensory breaks, behavior intervention, and therapies are provided through SES'
School Counselor, and our Board Certified Behavioral Analyst, Speech and Language Pathologist, Occupational Therapist and Physical Therapy Technician. These professionals meet with the liaison on a regular basis to ensure the success of all students.

It can be challenging and difficult for families to know how to help a child with a disability, but there is great information available on the internet. Understanding the state mandated process in order for a student to be referred, evaluated, and found eligible for student support services is important. The following resource links will provide you with some tips about
disabilities, special education law, and your rights as parents.
