Dear SES Families,

The second week of school has come to a close. As I write this, I am watching the first graders smiling and sitting in the grass and enjoying their snack in the beautiful September sunshine. The third grade is laughing and enjoying a mini break from learning on the play structure. On the other side of the building, Jessica is leading the 5th grade in an outside Choose Love lesson and the pre-K and K students are enjoying outside learning time. I am constantly reminded of the compassionate, supportive and beautiful school community we have at SES. It has been a week filled with some unexpected challenges, and we recognize the heightened health concerns families have for their children. We promise to communicate as clearly as we can with you as we continue to navigate educating young children in a pandemic.

We encourage you to reach out with concerns and questions and we will support you as much as we can.

We have decided that we will have a virtual Open House for Kindergarten-6th Grade this year. This will take place on Wednesday, September 29th*. Classroom teachers will meet with families for 25 minutes to discuss some of the learning and expectations of their grade. We will stagger some of the times so that families will be able to attend older and younger student meetings.

6:00-6:25 Kindergarten & 1st Grade
6:30-6:55 2nd Grade and 3rd Grade
7:00-7:25 4th Grade and 6th Grade

*Please note, the 5th Grade Open House virtual meeting will be on Wednesday September 22nd from 6:30-7:00.

Please save the date for these meetings. More information, including a link to the google meet will be sent in the coming weeks.

Happy Weekend,

Jackie

Library Open House
Tuesday, September 14th, 6 – 7 pm

For the last year and a half, the Library has been mostly closed to the public. There are many new Shutesbury residents who have never been inside the library and many long-time residents who haven’t been inside in a long time.
As we continue the process of applying for the library construction grant, we want to invite everyone for a quick visit inside our beautiful and cozy library.
It is still a pandemic, so masks are required. The Library is still tiny, so only a few people can be inside at a time. Also, the restroom is closed to the public.
Outside, under our tents, we will serve lemonade and cookies.
Please join us!
