Hello Moose,

This week was a busy one. We welcomed 3rd and 4th grade hybrid students to the building! We now have PK-6 hybrid students in the building from 8:30-11:30. Students have enjoyed being in their classrooms with each other and playing outside in the snow! Lots of sledding, snow building and frolicking has been happening during outdoor play time.

This week we learned about the intentions of Commissioner Reily, Secretary Peyser and Governor Baker regarding getting elementary students back to school for full days in April. The Commissioner is bringing this intention to the Board of Education for a vote in several weeks. We will know more about this and the impact to our schedule at SES after this vote. We will continue to keep you informed.

Some remote families have been reaching out to ask when we may re-survey families around attending in-person school. We plan on holding some informational meetings regarding our school schedule and structure after the Board of Education vote in 2 weeks. We hope to re-survey families closer to the end of March to see if students are interested in switching to in-person learning in April. This option (switching to some in-person learning) will be made available to families regardless of the outcome of the Board of Education vote regarding full days.

This year continues to be filled with twists and turns. We continue to work hard to provide our students with a supportive, engaging and meaningful school experience. We appreciate your support in this task! Spring is on the horizon, and we are so grateful for that!

Jackie

AMERICA READS PROGRAM:  We are excited to be partnering with Five College America Reads to pilot a remote tutoring program in the coming weeks. Some SES students in grades 1-4 will be matched with trained literacy tutors from area colleges, and participate in fun online reading sessions twice weekly during remote/asynchronous parts of the school day. We are selecting students based on teacher recommendation and available reading assessments, and teachers will be reaching out to the families of selected students with more information.  If you think your child would benefit and you would like more information about participating, feel free to contact Amadee for more details ([email protected])

***PTO NEWS***

Greetings from the SES PTO!

During this school year, the PTO has been “zooming” along and adapting as we go. Our mission to raise funds, support programs at SES and create community and parent connections to our wonderful school continues. As of this year, the PTO is officially a registered 501c(3) non-profit organization! We are so pleased to have attained this status! Many thanks to all of you who have taken part in our small fundraisers this year! These efforts supported local farms, businesses and our school! Our current Winter Warmer Fundraiser wrapped up this week.  Please stay tuned for other local fundraisers to come.

The PTO is open to all Shutesbury Elementary Parents. On that note, we would love to see you at our meetings on the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 7pm via Zoom. The link for our next meeting on Wednesday March 10 is:

The PTO is also hoping to fill vacancies on our executive board. Currently, we are looking for a Treasurer, and as our Secretary will “graduate” this year with her 6th grader, that position will open in June. Please consider taking part in this important organization! It is a wonderful way to connect with your child’s school community. Please reach out to us with any questions at [email protected] and Thanks!
