Dear Moose Community,

WELCOME BACK! The staff at SES is so very happy to finally see and work with our amazing students. It has been truly wonderful to see everyone in their virtual classrooms!! We understand there have been some technical glitches, a little frustration and a learning curve. However, students and teachers have persevered and remained positive, enthusiastic and determined.  We have spent the first 3 days learning the platform, seeing friends, meeting teachers and learning some very tricky technical skills. Our days will only get smoother as we all understand how to easily navigate through the tech portions. Everyday will become more comfortable and "normal.” Teachers are being kind and patient as they teach these skills to their students. BIG THANKS to Debbie Lee and Jessica for providing live tech help and support as needed. We are keeping track of the big issues and will offer support & classes on common issues that students are facing.

It was wonderful to see everyone during our Meet and Greet & Supply Pick Up times. Students have grown SO MUCH in 6 months. Some classrooms, especially the younger students, will have some more material pick up times as they switch out packets, books and hands on materials. Teachers will communicate these times through email. A thank you shout out to the awesome SES PTO for the fun Shutesbury backpacks that students received at pick-up times!

I want to extend a BIG WARM WELCOME to two new teachers at SES. James Parsons is our new Grade 4 teacher! Mr. Parsons is a familiar face around SES. He has children that are in the SES community and has been a staff member at SES for the past few years. Mr. Parsons is super excited to be teaching 4th grade. His kind, calm, engaging and friendly nature is the perfect fit for our special school.  Mike Cortina has joined us as our music teacher! Mr. Cortina is also a familiar face around SES. He has been the music teacher at Swift River School for several years and now joins us here!! He is super fun and enthusiastic and has really great ideas! Some of you have seen Mr. Cortina joining some class meets and singing some fun tunes with the kids. We are so happy that both Mr. Parsons and Mr. Cortina are at SES!

I wanted to share a personal thank you with all of our student caregivers. I am so deeply grateful for your kindness, compassion, patience, trust and support as we work REALLY HARD to make this a positive start of school for our community. We are listening to feedback, making adjustments and spending time trying to develop caring relationships with each family and student. I know the teachers are very thankful for your support and kindness as well.

I promise to continue to communicate clearly, listen to your feedback, and work hard to ensure a meaningful, engaging and supportive learning environment for all of our students and teachers. We are a team and we will persevere and thrive in this new adventure!

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

*LUNCH INFO - Just a reminder that free meals are available for anyone in your household under 18 years of age.  This program will last until December of 2020 or until funding runs out.  We are packing breakfast and lunch and distributing curbside pick up in the school parking lot on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 until 5.

The lunch menu is on our website.  We are asking that people sign up for the month and agree to pick food up in a specific time slot on every distribution day.  The food is made specifically for your family and includes granola, yogurt, fresh bread, milk, juice, fruit, some veggies and pizza, and of course oven ready lunches.  Please email Chef Gail:  [email protected] with any questions or to sign up.

*RETURNING FORMS – In your materials pick up, you should have received a pocket folder with school information and forms.  Please return these forms to school either via email (if there is no personal information on them), snail mail, or drop folders off at school in the lobby between 7am and 4pm, Monday – Friday.  Thank you for your attention to this!

*TECH HELP – If you or your student need help with school devices or Google Classrooms, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Tech Coordinator, Debbie Lee, [email protected] or your classroom teacher.
