Hello Moose,

I hope you stayed dry while trick-or-treating! What a wild weather filled Halloween!

As is tradition, the 4th graders lead our Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF fundraiser every year. This year the children did a fabulous job giving a speech at assembly and presenting a video about what the money raised for UNICEF goes to. The speech and the video made a big impact on our students. Many students participated in collecting small amounts of money while trick-or-treating with grown-ups. Two students, Will and Sam Malcolm-Brown got an idea to sell bags of popcorn for 25 cents to benefit UNICEF (see pictures in this week's Roadtown News!). Lila, a 5th grader made pumpkin bread to sell and donated the proceeds to UNICEF.  I am so proud of the student leadership at SES. This fundraiser is another example of the kindness, compassion and determination our school community has to contribute positively to the world. To understand more about UNICEF and that the funds we contribute go to, you can visit https://www.unicef.org/ .

Tonight is the Moose on the Move fundraiser dinner at the Shutesbury Athletic Club from 6-8pm.  This fundraiser will help support our incentive program (which all students benefit from!) and track upgrades.  Please come out and support!  If you’ve ever wanted your Principal to serve you dinner, tonight is the night!

Next week is National Children's Book Week. Ms. L. and some teachers have a few fun activities planned. Also, Jessica will be placing a storywalk up on the track for anyone to enjoy!

It is incredible to me that we are now in the month of November. We will welcome 2020 in 2 months!

Have a great November-y weekend.

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

Our 4th graders organized for our school to participate in Trick or Treat for UNICEF this year.  Students carry UNICEF boxes while they trick or treat and collect change to donate to this organization which helps children all over the world.  On Thursday, Sam and Will Malcolm-Brown (3rd grade and Kindergarten) and their mom, Jen, enthusiastically made popcorn to sell for 25 cents/bag to contribute to the UNICEF donations from our school.  Thanks Malcolm-Brown family for thinking of this creative way to give back!  And thank you to Lila Gilman-Hollabaugh for contributing the pumpkin bread!

3rd GRADE BIRD COLLAGES

In the art studio, 3rd grade artists compared and contrasted the artwork of John James Audubon and Charley Harper. We discussed the different reasons why someone makes art and compared the styles of these particular artists. In these collages 3rd graders explored shape, color, and composition while creating images of their bird.
