Hello Moose!

It has been a whirlwind of a week! The older students went apple picking on Wednesday and supplied us with delicious apple treats at their APPLE STORE fundraiser today! Thank you to the families who helped to bake the treats and to Christine and Steve Marglin from Leonard Road for allowing us to come and apple pick, make cider and take apples for FREE! We truly appreciate it.

It was FABULOUS to see so many families at Open House. Teachers enjoyed meeting families in the classroom. Many people stopped by the gym for a cookie or fruit and cheese and played with some equipment that Mr. Carra brought out! Jessica was at the track and tracked some moose miles with families. The PTO sold some SES T-shirts and handed out mums. It was a joyful event! Thank you for coming!

Tonight the 5th and 6th grades will have our FIRST Campout at SES. Laura, Mrs. McDonald, Renee, Jessica and I will be sleeping over at the school with the 5th and 6th graders! We have a fun evening planned of evening nature walks, a fire and s'mores, team building games, crafts, a movie and popcorn and "camping" on the gym floor. We will share some pictures of this event in the next RTN!

Today our big stuffed moose mascot has received a name. We have spent the last two weeks at school collecting name suggestions and having a series of votes. Sixty (60!) names were submitted. After the first vote we narrowed it down to the top 9. Then, we voted for the final name. I decided to use the top 3 most voted names as the first, middle and last name for the moose. The winning name is....

COCOA VINCENZO WYOLA! How exciting!

Have a great weekend!

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

In PE we have been engaged in our cooperative games, and tag games. As always, our primary focus in on our core values. We have recently built teamwork puzzles, each puzzle having its own saying, but all ending with ". . ." as the students had to write the story with their team. The relay race leading to the creation of the puzzle was challenge of its own, but even more so, I was impressed with the conversations that occurred afterward. Here, the class had the opportunity to shape their learning, and create a super hero code to work by for the year in PE. Some of my favorite discussions were about vision, ownership, and leadership in the classroom. I am so very proud to see how active our young learners have been through the start of the year in spirit, mind, and body. These conversations can make us stronger everywhere and anywhere. Maybe even at home, create your own code with that very special team. Our puzzle sayings can even help and go as follows: "Even on hard days I will . . ./ Inner strength means . . ./ Our team finds success when . . .".

Have a wonderful and active year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Steven A. Carra

***MOOSE LODGE CLUB (AFTERSCHOOL) NEWS***

Hello Shutesbury Moose,

The Lodgers have been meeting after school to play games, experiment with science, and create together. Intermittently we have still been building some fort cities in the gymnasium, but recently we just learned about G forces and the tallest roller coasters in the world. From there we created our own rides, using scooters, jump ropes and of course teamwork. Fun fact: astronauts experience about three and a half times the force of gravity from a launch!

MLC

Have the best day,

Sincerely,

Mr. Steven Carra
