FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL 2017-18

Hello Fellow Moose!

This is our last Roadtown News of the 2016-17 school year!  The year has flown by and the students have learned and accomplished so much. Tonight we will be saying farewell to our 6th graders who are moving on to Middle School.  This group of 12 children are certainly ready for this new adventure and we wish them the best of luck at their new schools.

Field Day is next Monday, June 19 (with a Rain Date of Tuesday, June 20).  Mr. Carra is excited to host his first Field Day and has been working hard to make sure it's a successful day for all students and staff members.  The children are truly looking forward to this day of outdoor activities!  Please make sure children are dressed appropriately for the outdoors (hats, sneakers) and have applied sunscreen and bug spray at home.  Thanks to Mr. Carra for all of his thoughtful planning!

The last day of school is Thursday, June 22.  Our end of year assembly will be held on Thursday at 9:30am.  Families are welcome to attend to watch the Kindergarteners give Buddy Books to the 6th graders and to say goodbye to friends and staff members.  We will have an 11:00am dismissal that day, which is different than years past.  There is NO AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM ON THE LAST DAY OF SCHOOL.  Please send in a yellow note with your child if their Thursday after school plans change.

An email was sent out yesterday describing the hard work of the School Council this year with a link to their annual survey.  See the details of this email under *School News*.

Finally, the School Council has completed the SES Homework Philosophy. This was a long process that included obtaining feedback from the community staff and students. We held forums and meetings, distributed and analyzed a survey, and read researc

h. We have crafted a SES Homework Philosophy statement that will be put in our Handbook. We have also provided you with some of the survey results from the survey. We are proud of our collaborative work in this process. We think the philosophy acknowledges many points of view and is a great framework. The Philosophy and data are attached to this Roadtown.

I hope that you all have a fabulous and safe summer!  If you are returning to SES in the fall, we will have a visit night in late August to warm us up for the 2017-18 school year (and to check out how much the students have grown!!).  See you on August 30th for the first day of the new school yearl!

Jackie

***SCHOOL NEWS***

NOTE FROM THE OFFICE:  The last day of school is Thursday, June 22 with an 11:00am dismissal and there is no Afterschool Program.  Please send in a yellow note that day if there is a change from your child’s normal Thursday after school plan.  Thank you!  And have a fabulous and safe summer!

Dear SES Community,

The School Council has had another successful year. As always, we have decided to send out a survey to the community to examine strengths and areas of growth within our school. Last year, we learned a lot from the survey, including the need to create an updated homework philosophy. We tackled that concern this year by holding forums, meetings, surveys and reading research around homework. We obtained feedback from staff, families, former families, community members and students. We have proudly created a new and updated SES Homework Philosophy that will be shared in this Roadtown.

The new homework philosophy is just one example as to why this survey is important. We appreciate all voices in the community as we try to ensure that SES continues to run smoothly and successfully.

Please take some time to complete the very short survey below. We have really tweaked the process so that it is not time consuming. Plus, you are able to enter to win 2 free pizzas from our very own Chef Gail.

Please access the survey HERE.  https://docs.google.com/a/shutesburyschool.org/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdyZx594zEvh12MjOdTpLrGeTy7_8SZEx9Eb6dTuoU5YcaKQw/viewform?c=0&w=1

Thank you and HAPPY SUMMER!

The SES School Council
