NO SCHOOL – Veterans’ Day

Dear Moose Community,

It has been really great to have so many families in the building this week due to conferences and the Book Fair. The halls have certainly been alive.

We were treated to some beautiful snow on Thursday! The students were delighted to watch and play in the beautiful snowflakes. Many of the adults were concerned about snow in October, but the children didn't seem to mind one bit!

Today we enjoyed Vocabulary Costume Day! Students and staff members dressed up as a unique word. Our costumes helped to define the word. The school was basically a walking dictionary! It was so wonderful to see the creative and unique choices of the students. Bravo to everyone who participated.

Special announcement! Effective January 1, 2017 our breakfast and lunch prices will be raised. SES is proud of the delicious and healthy food that is offered to our school community. To continue to offer this service, breakfast will be raised to $1.75/day. Lunch will be raised to $2.75/day for students and $3.75/day for adults.

Many thanks to our School Librarian, Heather Lobenstine for facilitating our fall Book Fair. This event got some great books in the hands of our kiddos and helped our library as well.

Next week, conferences continue on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be a 1:00 dismissal on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 1st, and a normal 1:00 dismissal on Wednesday the 2nd.

Looking ahead to November, there is no school on Friday the 11th due to Veteran's Day.

Best,

Jackie

AIKIDO - MONDAY NIGHTS - SHUTESBURY GYM

The ongoing Wendell Aikido class begins on Monday October 24 at the Shutesbury Elementary School gym at 5:30 - 6:30.

Aikido is a martial art.  The way (do) of harmonizing (ai) with the universal life force (ki).  Our emphasis is learning to move from our whole body center with ease.  Centered movement is characteristic of Aikido in response to another’s movement toward us.  Our centered movement creates a space to blend with and redirect the other person’s energy.  We also have a lot of fun moving individually and with each other!

In the one hour class we begin with warm-up stretches and Aikido movements and breathing.  Next is the Aikido movements with another class mate.  In this part of the class we learn how to direct our energy towards another and how to re-direct the energy of the other coming towards us.  Aikido movement is like a dance and you play both roles.  As we progress, we learn the art of falling and this is done at your own comfortable pace.

Come join us!  See how you feel with the natural movements of Aikido.  The first class is free.

Classes are taught by Ria Windcaller, Sensei and Charles Gilliam, Sensei.  They have been teaching the Wendell Aikido classes for over 25 years.  For more information go to our website at WendellAikido.com
